Thank you for visiting, I am a specialist Upper GI, hepatobiliary(Liver, gallbladder and pancreas), Transplant, and General Surgeon dual post-fellowship training in both liver/kidney transplantation and complex hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, I offer laparoscopic and robotic(key hole) minimally invasive surgery as well as endoscopy and colonoscopy. I currently serve as a Consultant Surgeon at Royal Perth Hospital, with a focus on hepatopancreaticobiliary and general surgery, and at Fiona Stanley Hospital, where I perform renal transplantation and organ retrieval surgery.

My surgical training spans across Australia and the UK, including fellowships through AANZHPBA(Australian & Aotearoa New Zealand, Hepatic, Pancreatic & Biliary Association)and TSANZ(Transplantation Society of Australia & New Zealand), as well as time at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds—one of Europe’s largest liver resection and transplant centers.

With over a decade of surgical experience, I provide comprehensive care for patients with gallbladder disease, liver or pancreas lesions, hernias, and reflux-related conditions. I offer modern, minimally invasive surgical techniques—including laparoscopic and robotic procedures—aimed at faster recovery, less pain, and fewer complications. Whether managing a simple hernia, gallbladder surgery or complex abdominal surgery, my goal is to deliver safe, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s needs.

Dr Marwan T. Idrees MBChB, FRACS, ChM (Distinction), DipHSc is a Consultant Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB), Renal Transplant, and General Surgeon.

He is highly trained surgeon specialising in liver, pancreas, kidney transplant, and general surgery. He completed advanced fellowships with the Australian & Aotearoa New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic & Biliary Association (AANZHPBA) and the Transplantation Society of Australia & New Zealand (TSANZ), as well as robotic and laparoscopic training in the UK. He holds a ChM with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh, a Diploma of Health Science, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

WA Surgery is a general surgical practice, which delivers patient-centred care in a multidisciplinary environment. Dr. Idrees offers expertise in complex liver resections, pancreatic surgery, bile duct and gallbladder disease, and kidney transplantation, including live donor procedures. He is skilled in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, providing advanced keyhole solutions for abdominal, bowel, and hernia conditions.

Education

Dr. Marwan T. Idrees completed his MBChB at Baghdad University, followed by a Diploma of Health Science from the University of Western Sydney and a ChM with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). He further advanced his expertise through an AANZHPBA Fellowship in HPB Surgery in Australia and the UK, a TSANZ-accredited PFET Transplant Fellowship, and training in robotic liver surgery and laparoscopic donor nephrectomy.
